Fayetteville, NC (February 15, 2023) - Cross Creek Mall is proud to unveil some new art created by talented local Douglas Byrd High School students at its shopping center this year. Juniors and seniors from Mrs. Southard's visual arts class were excited to showcase their creativity and artistic talents to be put on display to the community and all to see.
Throughout the project, students pulled inspiration from the four seasons, interpreting each season's unique charm using a rainbow of colors and styles. When asked what it meant to be a part of the project, the young artists were proud to share their experiences:
- “I really enjoyed working on this project because I learned how to paint with oil paint, and I got to do it with my friends. It’s my last year here, and I will always remember this project. I am excited to go to the Cross Creek Mall and see all the hard work we did for years to come.”
- “Honestly, I felt like it was a fun experience to be creative and paint the benches. The benches came out great, and it feels good to know that our talent will be shown on display in a public place.”
- “I felt honored to do this project with my classmates. It was so much fun to learn a few tips from my art teacher along the way. My teacher made it very entertaining and unique.”
“We are so excited to share with our shoppers the lovely art created by some wonderfully talented students from within our community,” said Jessica Kirkman, marketing director for Cross Creek Mall. “Over the last 48 years, the Mall’s story and success have been written by the members of this community, and we could not be more honored than to showcase the creativity and talents of our youth.”
The benches will be displayed outside the Mall in the district shopping complex next to the Belk entrance. We invite you to bring out the entire family to celebrate the students’ work!
